Born in Budapest, Erika Lux began playing the piano at the age of three and made her first public appearance only two years later. At the age of twelve she performed Mozart‘s Piano Concerto in F major KV 459. She took up her studies at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest at the age of sixteen and graduated „summa cum laude“ and with the „Grand Prix“. Subsequently she perfected her art in the masterclasses of many great pianists.
At the age of nineteen her success as a prize-winner at the Liszt-Bartók Competition led to numerous invitations to perform in internationally renowned concert halls. More awards followed, including top prizes at the ARD-Competition in Munich, the Debussy-Competition in his birthplace, Saint-Germain-en-Laye and the second prize at the Worldwide Piano Competition in Tokyo.
She gave concerts at numerous festivals, including Salzburg, Flanders and Paris, appearing with great orchestras such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, NHK Tokyo, Tivoli-Orchestra Copenhagen, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Bamberger Symphoniker and the Dresdner Philharmoniker, and she has performed with a number of highly renowned conductors. At the 2000-Year Anniversary celebrations in Bonn she appeared with Beethoven‘s Piano Concerto in C major, conducted by Lord Yehudi Menuhin. With Peter Schreier she gave a widely acclaimed concert in Munich, performing Beethoven Lieder, which she supplemented with Liszt‘s transcriptions.
Television companies and radio stations both in Europe and Overseas have broadcast her concerts. Numerous recordings are available.
Since 1990 Erika Lux has held a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover.
